= 村上是這篇文章的筆者。這個故事大抵上是以第三人稱進行，不過讓我這個敘事者在一開頭先露面。像舊時代的戲劇，站在幕前先說一段開場白，再鞠躬告退。因為花的時間不多，我想請各位稍微忍耐一下。 為什麼我要在這裡露面呢？因為過去我所親身遇到過的幾次「不可思議的事情」，也許還是由我自己來說會比較好。老實說，這類事情在我的人生中發生過幾次。有些具有意義，多少為我的人生帶來一些變化。也有些是微不足道的小事，人生也並沒有因此而受到影響——我想大概沒有。 也許是我的說法有什麼問題。於是我在雜誌的隨筆上試著寫出同樣的事情。我想如果寫成文章的話，人們或許會稍微認真地傾聽也不一定。不過我寫的東西幾乎沒有人會相信。也有幾次被說成「那個，反正是假的吧」。似乎因為是小說家，所以我口中說出來的（寫出來的）事情大家多多少少都會看成是「虛構的故事」。我確實會在小說中寫一些大膽的虛構故事（因為那就是小說所扮演的角色）。不過當我不寫小說的時候，並不會刻意去製造無意義的假話。 \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e〈哈那雷灣〉\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e坐在88 個象牙色和黑色的鍵盤前面，手指幾乎自動地移動著。\u003cbr\u003e在那之間其他事情什麼都不想。\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSachi的兒子十九歲的時候，在哈那雷灣（Hanalei Bay）被大鯊魚攻擊而死掉。正確說的話，並不是被吃掉的。是他一個人離岸到海上衝浪時，右腳被鯊魚咬斷，因為這衝擊而溺死。所以據說正式的死因就變成是溺死。衝浪板也幾乎被咬成兩半。鯊魚不喜歡吃人。說起來人肉的味道並不合鯊魚的胃口。鯊魚咬一口之後，大多就會感到失望而離開。所以即使受到鯊魚襲擊，只要不陷入恐慌，只失去一隻手或一隻腳而生還的例子很多。只是她兒子太驚慌了，所以可能引起心臟病發作之類的，喝了大量的水而溺死。 Sachi接到夏威夷火奴魯魯日本領事館的通知時，就那樣跌坐在地上。腦子裡一片空白，什麼也沒辦法思考。只能無力地癱坐在那裡，凝視著眼前牆壁上的一點。到底就那樣呆坐了多長的時間，她也不知道……。\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e〈不管是哪裡，只要能找到那個的地方〉\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e歡迎回到現實的世界來。由得了恐慌症狀的母親、穿著冰錐般尖銳高跟鞋的太太、和美林證券公司所圍成的美麗三角形的世界。\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e「正如你所知道的，所有的水都是挑被賦予的最短距離流過。但有時候，最短距離是靠水本身所形成的。人的思考，說起來跟那樣的水的機能很類似。我經常懷有這種印象。\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e「有時候我們並不需要語言。」\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e「可是另一方面，不用說，語言經常需要我們當媒介。如果我們不存在的話，語言也就失去存在意義了。不是這樣嗎？那就會變成永遠沒有被發出的語言，沒有被發言的語言，已經不能算是語言了。」\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e我把鉛筆放在桌上，身體直挺挺地攤在椅子上，仰頭望著天花板。天花板上滲著斑斑不規則的花紋，瞇細眼睛仔細看時，好像也有點像天體圖。我一面仰望著那虛擬的星空，一面想著說不定應該為了健康而再度開始抽菸呢？腦子裡還輕微響著高跟鞋在樓梯間走上走下時所發出的聲音。「胡桃澤先生，」我朝向天花板的一角，發出聲音說：「歡迎回到現實的世界來。由得了恐慌症狀的母親、穿著冰錐般尖銳高跟鞋的太太、和美林證券公司所圍成的美麗三角形的世界。」而我則也許又要去某個別的地方，繼續尋找形狀像門、或雨傘、或甜甜圈、或大象的東西吧。\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e〈日日移動的腎形石〉\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e男人的一生中，只會遇到三個真正有意義的女人。既不會比這多，也不會比這少。\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e父親以平淡的口氣，但斬釘截鐵地這樣說。就像在說地球花一年時間繞太陽周圍一圈似的。淳平默默地聽著。一方面因為突然聽到這樣的話很驚訝，一方面至少在那個時間點一時也想不出該說什麼意見。 「所以就算你以後認識很多女人，並跟她們交往，」父親繼續說：「但是如果搞錯對象的話，那也是徒勞無益的。這一點你最好要記住。」 後來，有幾個疑問浮上年輕兒子的腦海。「父親是不是已經遇到那三個女人了？母親是不是其中的一個？那麼，他跟另外兩個人之間到底發生了什麼事？」\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e〈品川猴〉\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e會想不起來的，只限於她自己的名字。會想不起來的，只有自己的名字而已。\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e有時候她會想不起自己的名字。多半是在出其不意地被人問到名字的時候。例如在精品服飾店買洋裝，需要修改袖子的尺寸，被店員問到：「請問您的姓名？」的時候。或者在工作中需要用電話聯絡什麼，最後對方說：「對不起可以再請問一次您的大名嗎？」時，當下卻忽然失去記憶。變得不知道自己是誰了。所以為了想起名字，不得不掏出皮夾來看駕照，當然會惹得對方滿臉驚訝，或者——由於談話忽然中斷所形成的空白——而使電話的對方感到莫名其妙。
