Escape seems at hand when a professor offers Tilda the opportunity to enroll in a doctoral program in Berlin. Before she can take it, she must teach Ida to fend for herself, a task made even more complicated by mounting family tensions. Then she meets Viktor, a loner who, like her, swims laps every day and carries his own set of wounds. His arrival will send her life off its planned path.
