Juan llega a La Ceiba siendo apenas un muchacho. Ahí conoce a Mariana quien, como él, está encandilada por el oasis fundado por Ramón, un visionario de precisión matemática que ha transformado la miseria de un pueblo rodeado de selva.

Las décadas siguientes parecen confirmar los ideales con los que Juan llegó en su juventud: la comunidad florece, la tierra responde y la vida con Mariana es plena.

Pero hay verdades que no desaparecen, solo esperan. La grandeza de ese mundo que conocen revela algo que se proyecta sobre la vida de todos; es una certeza que desmorona lo construido: Ramón tiene una sombra que nadie ha querido enfrentar.

A novel about the cost of evading the truth.

Juan arrives in La Ceiba as a boy. There he meets Mariana who, like him, is dazzled by the oasis founded by Ramón, a visionary of mathematical precision who has transformed the misery of a town surrounded by jungle.

The following decades seem to confirm the ideals with which Juan arrived in his youth: the community flourishes, the land responds, and life with Mariana is fulfilling.

But there are truths that don’t go away; they merely wait. The grandeur of that world they know reveals something that casts a shadow over everyone’s life; it is a certainty that brings down what has been built: Ramón has a shadow that no one has wanted to face.

What remains of us when the roots of our lives have been nourished by a deception? What silences have been used to erect temples? What remains of those who helped build them?
