Barcelona, 1969. Bertha is a civil servant at the Vagrancy and Crime Court, where she prosecutes dissident collectives or groups excluded from society due to their ideas, profession, or sexual orientation. However, she has a problem following orders that entail the suffering of innocents. When her brother is found dead under strange circumstances, she is forced to investigate a government plot that takes repression to the limit and could put an end to her career and even her life.
The first novel by lawyer and judge Purificación Pujol is a heart-pounding thriller set in Barcelona and Menorca that combines action and intrigue, and unveils the intricacies of the political and legal system prior to the Spanish transition to democracy.
