　　住在山上的爺爺有個蘋果園，他採摘了很多蘋果要寄給城裡的小孫子。宅急便公司的人來取貨了，小貨車把裝蘋果的箱子送到營業所，再換大貨車送到轉運中心。轉運中心裡有好多工作人員，他們按照貨品要送達的目的地，一箱箱裝上各自的貨櫃車。車子出發了，從天黑跑到天亮，從這個轉運站跑到那個轉運站。

　　他們再把裝蘋果的箱子放到小貨車上，一路和許許多多的東西一站站送到各自要去的地方。在宅急便公司的人辛苦的運送下，經過一個黑夜一個白天，爺爺的小孫子終於吃到新鮮蘋果了。

　　當我們流連在甜美的夢境時，宅急便的車子正在高速公路上奔馳，?我們送東西到遠方。本書從收件到送貨，生動的描繪現代便利生活的背後環節，幫助小朋友認識社會的運作機制。
