Cristina Morató es periodista, fotógrafa y escritora. Desde muy joven ha recorrido el mundo realizando numerosos reportajes. Durante años alternó sus viajes con la dirección de programas de televisión y colaboraciones en radio y en prensa, trabajos que abandonó para escribir sobre la vida de las grandes viajeras y exploradoras de la historia. En buscade sus rastros recorrió más de cuarenta países. Fruto de suinvestigación son las obras Viajeras intrépidas y aventureras, Las reinasde África, Las damas de Oriente y Cautiva en Arabia. Sus libros Divas rebeldes, Reinas malditas y Diosas de Hollywood reflejan su interés por descubrir el lado más humano y menos conocido de mujeres valientes, poderosas y legendarias. Es también autora de la biografía de Lola Montes,Divina Lola. Traducidas a varios idiomas, todas sus obras han sido acogidas con extraordinario éxito de crítica y público.

After the success of Reinas malditas [Damned Queens], Cristina Morató is back with the stories of five queens who left their marks on history.
The official portraits depicting monarchs decked out with sumptuous dresses and jewels conceal lives marked by personal tragedy and misfortune.
Several of these five women were born far from the seat of power but claimed the crown on their own right rather than through marriage. Elizabeth I, daughter of Anne Boleyn, rose from illegitimate princess to ruler of England’s Golden Age. Catherine the Great led an army to defeat her husband and guided the Russian Empire with a strong hand. Empress Cixí entered the Forbidden City as a concubine and governed China from behind a silk curtain. The two other women covered in this volume survived reigns marked by fateful intrigue: Catherine of Aragon, daughter of Spain’s Ferdinand and Isabel, was the first wife of Henry VIII and one of England’s most beloved queens; and the unfortunate Charlotte of Belgium, the educated young princess who became Empress of Mexico, slipped into insanity after the assassination of her husband, Maximilian of Austria.

A journalist, photographer and writer, Cristina Morató has covered stories around the world. In between, she has directed numerous television programs and collaborated on projects for radio and print. She left the world of media to write about history’s great voyagers and explorers, a passion that has taken her to more than forty countries. Her works include Viajeras intrépidas y aventureras [Intrepid, Adventurous Travelers], Las reinas de África [The Queens from Africa], Las damas de Oriente [Ladies of the Orient] and Cautiva en Arabia [Captive in Arabia.].
