Publicado en 1945, Golfo de Penas reúne dieciocho relatos situados en la pampa patagónica, donde sus protagonistas -capitanes de barco, cetáceos, goletas, cazadores de focas, entre otros- se enfrentan a la soledad y la grandeza de tierras remotas, dejando al descubierto la esencia más primitiva del ser humano en su lucha por sobrevivir y, al mismo tiempo, desvelando una belleza primigenia, bondad y el amor por la naturaleza.

A work that anticipates the ecological dilemma of survival.

Published in 1945, Gulf of Penas brings together eighteen stories set in the Patagonian plains, where the protagonists—ship captains, whales, schooners, seal hunters, among others—confront the solitude and grandeur of remote lands. In doing so, they reveal the most primitive essence of the human being in their struggle for survival, while also uncovering a primordial beauty, kindness, and love for nature.
